Squash Tips from Lindsey
This week’s Top Tip ………
Pressure…..
Applying pressure means making it more difficult for you opponent to return shots. There are three ways to apply pressure in squash:
Making an opponent retrieve a difficult shot Shortening the actual time between exchanges forcing an opponent to rush Combining both tactics by making an opponent retrieve a difficult shot with the least amount of time to prepare
Regardless of level, a player must take the initiative to add pressure and win critical points during a match.
Last week's Tip From The Top:
Although power is a big part of today’s game it is not the deciding factor, especially in the front court. The front court is the claimed territory of the touch player. This player masters the most difficult and most elegant of all shots – this weapon is the drop shot and the secret of this shot is technique. The touch player is known to crush an opponent’s spirit with this single shot. Accuracy is the key and all players know that a bad attempt at a drop is an instant opening for an opponent.

Service drills
A lob serve should be hit high on the front wall, aiming to hit the side wall near the back of the court. A hard serve is hit just above the cut line on the front wall, aiming to hit the side wall, low down, just behind the service box. It can also be aimed to a length straight at the opponent or close to the half court line. Do service competing with partner for points – Serve into the back quarter for one point, serve into back quarter behind the back of service box for two points, serve into back quarter behind back of service box off side wall for three points. |
