International Events

A lot has been happening over the past month. Only 48 days until we kick off the 2017 World Junior Championships with the Opening Ceremony at Baycourt, Tauranga.

Which Nations Will Be Represented?

Entries for the Junior Women and Junior Men close tomorrow so we’ll know just how many nations will be participating in the 2017 World Junior Squash Championships.  We’ve had plenty of interest from afar afield as Saudia Arabia, Norway and Argentina as well as confirmation that defending Champions Egypt will be sending a large contingent with the aim of taking home their 6th consecutive World Junior Women’s title!

The New Zealand team has been announced and features two players from BOP. Congratulations to:

Junior Women:  Kaitlyn Watts (Palmerston North), Anna Hughes (Remuera), Anika Jackson (Hamilton), Camden TeKani-McQueen (Geyser City), Nadia Hubbard (Lakes High), Rhiarne Taiapa (Hastings)

Junior Men: Finn Trimble (Whangarei), Matthew Lucente (Belmont Park), Gabe Yam (Belmont Park), Mitchell Kempton (Henderson), Lwamba Chileshe (Lugton Park), Quinn Udy (Hawkes Bay).

Merchandise Orders Close Tomorrow

Final reminder that merchandise orders close tomorrow 1 June.  The merchandise is pre-sales only so make sure you don’t miss out.  The full range, price and size guide can be found on the order form here

Volunteers

We have had great response from volunteers with squashies and plenty of non-squashies putting their hands up to be part of the action.  We can’t run this event without the support of the Clubs and the volunteers who will be tasked with a range of duties, as well as helping us showcase squash and our beautiful City.  If you want to be part of the event, it’s not too late to volunteer.  Simply call Megan Cleverley, Volunteers Co-ordinator on 027-461-7219 or email meganc@sportbop.co.nz.  Volunteer duties will be finalised next week so get in quick.

Signage

You will no doubt have seen the signage erected at the Clubs with logos on the front walls at Devoy and Mount Clubs.  More signage will be installed over the coming weeks.  We’ve also been skodering about in our “roving billboard”.  Our event car has kindly been supplied by Farmer Autovillage.  If you see us out and about, snap and tag us on facebook or Instagram #wsfworldjuniors2017.
