The HP Programme

The High Performance programme has been modelled around a philosophy that unites all players, coaches, administrators and officials in working towards a common purpose.

Vision

In partnership with its member districts and clubs, Squash New Zealand will deliver programmes that win the respect of its international competitors through the outstanding performances of its athletes both on and off the court. The vision is for

"world class athletes, world class people"

Values

The HP Programme will be formed by the following values:

1. Spirit of Sacrifice
"there isn't enough money to buy results"

The national High Performance programme is founded on the willingness of players and coaches to make personal sacrifices in order to achieve outstanding results.

2. Competitive Ethos
"being good in domestic terms is not good enough"

The measure of success, both for the players and the overall HP programme, is success in international competition. The benchmark for players is their ability to win for NZ, not just win in NZ.

3. All Round Preparation
"strength in all facets of the game is a minimum requirement"

Players and coaches will achieve superior standards in:

• Technical Mastery
• Tactical Appreciation
• Physical Conditioning
• On-court performance under pressure
• Off-court presentation and professionalism
• Independent thinking

4. Drug Free Sports

Drug Free Sport NZ is dedicated to providing a sporting environment that is free of banned doping methods for New Zealand sport and athletes.
Drug Free Sport NZ works with National Sporting Organisations and other key agencies to deter the use of banned substances through effective drug testing procedures, educational and research programmes.

Goals

The pursuit of excellence unites all elements of 'Reaching Higher', and requires all personnel to meet superior standards.

Excellence in Playing

• Successful performances at World Championships and Commonwealth Games
• A healthy base of players from which representative teams can be selected
• New Zealand players routinely competing on the world circuits.

Excellence in Coaching

• A network of qualified, experienced coaches with professional authority who have the ability to deliver quality programmes to HP players and achieve successful outcomes.

• A supportive administration that helps to create the environment for coaches and players to perform at their best.
