2015 Oceania Junior Champs Hosting

Expressions of Interest are sought from Clubs to host next year's Oceania Junior Championships and Trans-Tasman Tests.

The Oceania Junior Championships - and accompanying Trans-Tasman Junior Test Series - were revived earlier this year, hosted on the Gold Coast in Australia.  It is New Zealand's turn to host the 2015 edition, and expressions of interest are sought from enthusiastic clubs.

The 2015 event will be held on the weekend of 17-19 April (the final weekend of the school holidays).  This will effectively create a 'circuit' of junior events, including:

  • 3-5 April: Australia Junior Open.
  • 10-12 April: New Zealand Junior Open.
  • 17-19 April: Oceania Junior Championships.

It is hoped that the creation of such a circuit will boost entries and participation.

NB: These dates, while probable, or not yet confirmed.

What does hosting involve?

  • The Championships are an age group event, with separate age groups for boys and girls at under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 levels, running from Friday to Sunday.
  • This year's (inaugural) event attracted 150 entries.  More are expected for an April event.
  • The Trans-Tasman Junior Test Series would be played at the venue mid-week (most likely Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon/evenings).
  • Organising an accommodation package in conjunction with hosting the event may provide a Club with an opportunity to expand its revenue streams.
  • Squash New Zealand will allocate National Referees, provide balls, and market the event.
