Combined Grading List: Guidance

As the tournament season begins, take another look at how the Combined Grading List will affect clubs/players.

This document has been produced to provide information on how the Combined Grading List will work in the context of tournaments and interclub.

In a nutshell; while National Events (things like Superchamps, Champion of Champions, National and North/South Island Championships) will be contested in separate men's and women's draws, clubs and Districts have the flexibility to decide how they want to run their tournaments and/or interclub.

The guidance document runs through several options for club tournaments.  It is highly recommended that the selected option is put on the tournament poster so that all players know in advance what the format will be.

  • The top three divisions will be mixed, with gender-specific divisions below this,
  • ALL divisions will be mixed,
  • The tournament organisers reserve the right to use mixed divisions where numbers require.

While different formats will work best in different regions, there is no right/wrong answer.  Squash New Zealand recommends taking on board feedback from early-season tournaments and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that tournaments are well supported by all players.
