2014 Coaching Conference Summary

The Coaching Conferences, held at Khandallah Squash Club and Stadium Southland, have concluded for 2014.

The 2014 Coaching Conferences were held at the Khandallah Squash Club, Wellington from 1-2 March and Stadium Southland, Invercargill from 8-9 March.

Each conference comprised a High Performance strand, delivered by Paul Hornsby – Squash New Zealand High Performance Coach - and a Community strand delivered by Jason Fletcher - Squash New Zealand National NI Coaching Clinic - SMALLCoaching Director.

The themes covered included:

HP:

  • Player Profiling

  • Movement into the Back of the Court

  • Use of Side Walls

  • Creating a world class Athlete Mentality

  • Breaking Rhythm and Deception

  • Pressure Sessions

  • Drop Shots

Community:

  • Developing Technique ( Introduction to using technology )

  • Developing Technique ( Practical use of technology)

  • Developing the Lob

  • Effective Feedback on and off court

  • Creating a world class Athlete Mentality

  • PDA Cycle

  • Tactical Awareness

  • Coach exchange

A total of 27 coaches from around New Zealand attended with 15 in the High Performance strand and 12 in the community strand.  While numbers were down on previous years the conferences continue to provide a valuable development opportunity for our coaching community with plenty of positive feedback from those who attended.  

Squash New Zealand would like to thank the coaches who attended for supporting these conferences, and the two host venues for their assistance with running the events.
