Palmer, Beresford seeded to win South Island Age Group titles
2 Jul 2014Abbie Palmer (North Shore) and Jackson Bereford (Christchurch) are seeded to win the under 19 South Island Age Group titles this weekend.
Palmer, a regular name on the Squash New Zealand's various junior age group trophies, will be looking to add the under 19 South Island title to the five South Island Age Group titles already to her name. Beresford was the runner-up in last year's South Island under 19 final, losing to Oamaruvian home-town hero Chris van der Salm. He will be looking to go one better in his last event as a junior.
Several other players will be looking to add to their collection of South Island titles. Last year's under 15 champion Quinn Udy is top seed of the under 17 division this year. Anna O'Connor is out to defend her under 13 title, while Ruby Turnbull - a former under 11 and under 13 champion - has top billing in the under 15 division.
The event is being hosted by Oamaru Squash & Badminton Club for the second year in a row, and with an increase in entries, it would appear that punters are voting their approval of the Midlands Club's hospitality with their feet.
