Coulter wins world title

Hamilton's Trevor Coulter has won the men's 80+ title at the World Masters Championships in Hong Kong!

Coulter took the title on a countback after crushing the English top seed 11-8 11-5 11-7 in the final round of pool play to notch up the first world title of his playing career.World Masters 2014 logo

The other Kiwi in finals action, Becky Clarke, was beaten by top seed Amanda Hopps in the W40 age group 4-11 11-13 7-11 to finish with silver.  In the same age group, Lisa Cowlard won the bronze medal playoff 8-11 11-7 11-6 11-5.

Several Kiwis finished in fourth position: Barry Gardiner (M75), Kathryn McKay (W50) and Freda Walker (W60).

A further group impressed in the various plates of their age groups.  Chad Sunde (playing for Hong Kong now) won the M40 special plate, and Ryan Quinn the M40 consolation plate.  In the M45 New Zealand had two runners-up: Simon Barton in the plate and Shane Hagan in the special plate.  Mark Gribben took the M50 special plate. with Ross Stokes runner-up in the M50 consolation plate.  Nadine Cull was runner-up in the W40 special plate,

The event in Hong Kong has been hailed as a great success.  Well done to all of the Kiwi players who competed under the Kiwi flag and made us proud.
