Mixed results on day two of doubles

A smattering of wins and losses for Kiwi pairing on day two of the Commonwealth Games doubles competition.

Joelle King and Martin Knight got the day off to a good start with a comfortable straight sets win over Scottish opponents in the mixed doubles.  They have topped their pool and will receive a favourable Round of 16 draw.  New Zealand's other mixed doubles combination (Amanda Landers-Murphy and Paul Coll) suffered defeat to Indian duo Joshana Chipanna and Harinder Pal Sandhu.  Landers-Murphy and Coll still qualify for the Round of 16, but will need to be at their very best to beat higher ranked opponents and gain a quarter-final berth.

Paul Coll and Lance Beddoes easily brushed aside their Sri Lankan opposition in the men's doubles to finish second in their pool.  They will now face the winners of Pool E in the Round of 16 - who happen to be their countrymen Campbell Grayson and Martin Knight.  New Zealand is therefore guaranteed a quarter-final berth in the men's doubles.

Mixed results in the women's doubles, with both pairings winning one and losing one during the day.  Joelle King and Amanda Landers-Murphy were defeated 2-1 by English third seeds Alison Waters and Emma Beddoes, but bounced back to beat the Scots 2-0.  King and Landers-Murphy will now play Dipika Pallikal and Joshana Chinappa in the quarter-finals.  Megan Craig and Kylie Lindsay defeated their Sri Lankan opponents, but lost to the Indians to be knocked out in pool play.
