Top four progress to Semis
21 Aug 2014The top four seeds have progressed to the semi-finals of the National Championships in Auckland today.
The seedings have proved accurate at the 2014 National Champs, with the top four progressing to the semis, mostly with ease.
Ellie Epke came closest to causing an upset in the women's quarter-finals, taking the opening game from Kylie Lindsay. From there, however, Lindsay's experience and professionalism shone through as she took control of the match to win in four sets. Her semi-final opponent will be Megan Craig. In the other semi-final top seed Joelle King will take on Amanda Landers-Murphy.
The match of the men's quarter-final round was played between Kashif Shuja and Lance Beddoes - the fourth and fifth seeds. The match see-sawed, with each game extremely closely contested. Shuja took a two love lead, before Beddoes bounced back to take the third. The crowd was braying for Beddoes to take the fourth and force a decider, such was the quality of the squash on offer. However Shuja was able to win the big points and seal his place in a semi-final match-up with Martin Knight. The other semi will be contested by Paul Coll and Campbell Grayson.
All four semi-finals will be streamed live (back to back) from 5.15pm - and entry is free for spectators.
