Senior nationals wrap-up

A successful five days of squash at Senior Nationals has been wrapped up at North Shore Squash Club.

Auckland turned on the weather for its visitors from around the country, with the stunning vista from the club's verandah on song all week.2012 Martin Knight

In the individual championships Martin Knight defended his title by beating Campbell Grayson in a gruelling 101 minute final, while Megan Craig picked up the first national title of her career after Joelle King was forced to withdraw with a torn achilles tendon.  King will be operated on this week, and begin her comeback trail.

Top seeds Wellington took out the men's team championships, while Central came all the way from third seeds to win the women's team championships for the first time in the event's history.

At the annual awards dinner on Saturday night Glenn Carson - recently returned from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow - won the coveted Derek Cook Memorial Trophy for contribution to refereeing.  The Most Improved awards were given to Lance Beddoes (Auckland) and Joelle King (Waikato).

The Championships were live streamed for the first time in the event's history, with footage (including a number of interviews) available here.

Photos of winners and a few action shots are available at Squash NZ's facebook page - www.fb.com/SquashNZ.
