Seeds on track in Cambridge

The top seeds are on track at the Under 23 National Championships in Cambridge this weekend.

In the men's, top seed and favourite Lance Beddoes of Henderson Squash Club in AucklanCVDSd will come up against Canterbury's Chris van der Salm, who plays out of the powerful Squashways Club, in the final.  Beddoes was relatively untroubled in getting past New Zealand junior rep Scott Galloway 11-2 11-3 11-2.  Van der Salm was made to work harder for his place in the final by third seed and Cambridge club member Zac Millar.  Van der Salm eventually edged clear 11-3 10-12 11-3 12-10.

The women's final will be played between Rebecca Barnett and Ellie Epke.  SquashGym Palmerston North's Barnett defeated Hayley Hughes (Eden Epsom) 11-9 11-6 11-3 to book her place in the title decider.  Earlier, Hughes had upset fourth seed Abbie Palmer in straight games to reach the semis.  Epke (Eden Epsom) beat Emma Millar of Cambridge in a marathon 11-7 11-6 6-11 9-11 11-9 semi-final to reach the decider.  Millar is returning from an extended break from competitive play.

In the Tertiary Teams Challenge, it was all Waikato and Victoria.  Waikato took out the Mixed competition as expected, their powerful lineup too strong for the opposition.  Victoria University just edged Waikato for the prize in the Men's division.
