Baptism of fire for Kiwis in Canada
1 Dec 2014The New Zealand women's squash team faces a baptism of fire at the World Teams Championships tomorrow.
A stiff challenge for New Zealand in their opening tie at the Women's World Team Squash Championships in Canada tomorrow morning.
The ninth seeded Kiwis take on defending champions and title favourites Egypt in the first round of pool play in Group A.
With world number four Joelle King absent due to a ruptured achilles, 45th ranked Amanda Landers-Murphy heads the Kiwi team, with Megan Craig (54), Kylie Lindsay (69) and rising star Rebecca Barnett also in the side.
However, they are unlikely to be a match for the Egyptians who sport four players inside the top 12 in the world, including third ranked Raneem El Weleily and world number four Nour El Sherbini.
New Zealand will also face Colombia (13-16 seed) and China (17-20 seed) in pool play, while a crucial showdown with eighth seeded Ireland could decide who goes through to the quarterfinals alongside Egypt from the group.
New Zealand and Egypt will square off at 8:30 tomorrow morning NZT.
