Former National Champ Mochan Dies

Three time former national champion Don Mochan has passed away in Te Awamutu, aged 86.

Squash New Zealand would like to formally express its condolences to the friends and relatives of Don Mochan, who died recently in his daughter's home in Te Awamutu.

Mochan was one of the pioneers of the game in New Zealand, and one of many players to come out of the Palmerston North hotbed of talent.

He won the New Zealand National Championships in 1953, 1955 and 1956, as well as finishing runner-up in 1954.  He represented New Zealand at senior level in the first touring party to visit Australia.

Recent Hall of Fame inductee Bryden Clarke remembers Mochan as a fierce competitor, to the extent that he once had blood coming out of his shoes after a particularly hard match!
