Day 1 Goes To Seed At Oceania Junior ChampionshipsResized Crowd at OJC

All the seeds have managed to make it through unscathed today. There were some moments of concerns for the seeds throughout the day but noone could be upset today.

In the Boys Under 19 all seemed to be going to plan until 11th seed Jayden Millard made the first upset of the draw against sixth seed Max Trimble. Jayden got on court and couldn't seem to make a fault. Trimble couldn't manage to find his stride on the courts today and went down in 3 in an unexpected lost. It was tenth seed Joseph WIlliams to take the next seed out against seventh seed Alex Revington. The boys went game for game but WIlliams managed to get the edge in the fifth and Revington couldn't come back going down in 5. All other seeds moved on unscathed to the quarter finals.

In the Girls Under 19 there was not as much excitement to be had as the Boys with all seeds moving on comfortably to second round. Ellie Epke first seed had a bye today and second seed Lakeesha Rarere made light work of Libby Craighead showing why she has a world ranking of 88.

The Under 17 Boys saw a qulifier happen first thing this morning with Caleb Madden, Ben Remihana and Thomas Pickles picking up the 3 spots in the main draw. However this would be the end of their winning streaks for the day. The other higher seeds showed their strength and made light work of the boys.

The Girls Under 17 qualifier saw Kiriana Andrew, Alex Thurlow, Jasmine Demchy and Parearau Kutia pick up the spots in the main draw. These girls like the Under 17 Boys were not able to pick up their second game wins and went down to their higher seeded counterparts.

The rest of the draws saw very little action throughout the day with all of the seeds managing to get through to their next round. The only upset came in the Boys Under 13 saw tenth seed Solomon Lewis get an epic win over Henry Moran with the fifth game going down to the wire and neither boy wanting to give up but Solomon managed to scrape the win. There was some action in the second round games of the Girls Under 13 with sixt seed Dileesia Henare managing to clinch the win over third seed Anna Skerrett in a hard fought five setter with Dileesia needing to pull back from 2-1 down to win it.

Tomorrow is sure to see some great games of squash from all and another full on day. Games start at 9am at both Stadium Southland and Squash City Invercargill.
