Williams Claims Second PSA Title

Evan Williams 2011

New Zealand's Evan Williams has taken little time to rediscover his form on the squash court.

Williams has quickly put a lengthy spell on the sidelines behind him to take out the PSA World Tour's South Australian Open in North Adelaide.

In the first round Williams managed to take down Tsz Kwan Lau in 4. He then went on to face Tim Cowell of Australia and with Cowell retiring in the third Williams was able to have a breather before his next battle.

Williams faced fourth seeded Australian Rhys Dowling next. Dowling has a current WR of #171 meaning this was always going to be a tough fight for Williams. Williams had the lead after the first two games but Dowling fought back hard in the third and fourth and the game seemed as if it could go anyway. Williams however stepped up and took the fifth game 11-3.

Williams then made quick work of the first seed Dane Sharp from Canada. The fifth seeded Kiwi then downed second seed James Huang 11-7, 11-9, 12-10 in the final.

It is Williams's second title in a matter of weeks, having also won the Squash Waikato Golden Jubilee Open earlier this month.

His chances of back-to-back titles were snuffed out by Huang last week at the NT Open in Darwin, but the 25-year-old Kiwi gained swift revenge in South Australia.

Williams missed more than a year of squash through injury and is currently ranked 183 in the world.

But his recent form suggests he’ll be back around his previous best ranking of 79 very soon
