Cousins Shield/Mitchell Cup 2015Resized cups

Whangarei Squash club is getting set to host 20 of New Zealand's finest club teams this weekend as the competition and festivities are ready to kick off.

In the Men's draw 13 teams spanning the length of the country will be competing for the Cousins Shield. With last years winners Squash Ways seeded first they will be making to look it second time lucky. With their team featuring some notable local names such as Paul Coll and Chris Van Der Salm. Second seeds Thorndon and third Seeds North Shore will make sure it is not an easy win for them. Thorndon features local Wellingtonian Evan Williams who off the back of 2 PSA title wins will be wanting to add another mantlepiece to his shelf. North Shore rounds out the top 3 with Martin Knight leading the team with a few other notable names scattered amongst his team mates. The team from Cromwell will travel the furthest to get to this event but they are sure to have a good time.

In the Women's Draw 7 teams will try to take the prestigous Mitchell Cup off last years winners North Shore. With many of the teams featuring some big names from the squash scene it is sure to be a battle for the top spot. Notable appearances include sixth seeds Silverdale being lead by Shelley Kitchen, fourth seeds Devoy Squash and Fitness have Kylie Lindsay taking the top spot and third seeds Royal Oak sees Amanda Landers-Murphy coming in to hopefully lead their team to victory. This will be a 7 horse race for the final this year.

Games kick off at 1:30pm on Friday at the Whangarei Squash Club with the finals planned for 11:30am and 2:30pm on Sunday.
