Semi-Finals Decided at NZ International ClassicPSA Resized Logo

Four kiwis will grace both the Mens and the Womens Semi-Finals tomorrow with a number of international players also making their way in.

The first womens match on court was between Misaki Kobayashi of Japan and Ellie Epke. Epke having won her first round game was on a high but it was clear from the outset that Kobayashi was not going to let the new commer to the cicuit off easily. Kobayashi managed to take out the win in 3.

The first match of the mens draw was between Nafiizwan Adnan of Malaysia and Rex Hedrick of Australia. This was never going to be an easy match for either player with there being just under 20 placings difference between the two players it was going to be a tough one for either of them to win. Hedrick came out and worked hard in the first game and managed to clinch a very good win. Although Hedrick looked like he was going to be able to spend all day on court chasing down balls he was not able to match Adnans shots with Adnan slowly taking the lead and eventually going down in 4.

The next womens match was between Amanda Landers-Murphy and Sarah Cardwell of Australia. Landers-Murphy has only a lead of 15 in terms of her world ranking position so it was expected to be a tough battle. However the Australian didn't seem to be able to find her rhythm on the cold Palmerston North courts and went down in 3.

The second match of the mens was between kiwi compatriots Martin Knight and Paul Coll. With Coll having had a tough battle against fellow kiwi Kashif Shuja the previous night and Martin having an easier run through to the quarter it was going to be a tough battle for both of these players. Coll took the early lead winning the first game in a battle of long rallies. Coll took this win in his stride and battled on in the second and managed to take the win. There was no stopping Coll after this and he came out firing getting the early lead in the third game and Knight wasn't able to regain his stride and went down to his younger player.

The third match of the womens was between Megan Craig and Christine Nunn of Australia. Craig being hot off wining the WA title was ready to show the Aussie how she did it on home soil. Nunn couldn't manage to get the kiwi off her stride and Craig took the lead and never looked back. Craig managing to get on and off court in time to watch Coll take his win over Knight.

The third match of the mens was between Raphael Kandra of Germany and Declan James of England. There were some strong rallies between the two players but James used his reach to his advantage and made Kandra cover a large number of miles on the court. James pulled away in the first and then never looked back taking the win in 3.

The final place in the womens semi-finals was between Joey Chan of Hong Kong and Sina Wall of Germany. Chan showed her strong experience and made light work of Wall winning in 3.

The final game of the night was between Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu of India and Campbell Grayson. Grayson struggled to come out at the beginning of the first game but from 9-7 down he came back to take the first game. Grayson carried on his stride in the second and managed to take the win and give him a good lead into the third game. Grayson looked set to make it a win in 3 but unfortunately lost concentration at 6-2 and went down in the third. Grayson came out firing in the fourth and never looked back taking the win and securing his spot in the semi finals.
