World Junior Girls Team Defeat IndiaSquash Netherlands

After what can only be described as one of the more tense matches of the tournament our World Junior Girls have come out on top to defeat India in a 2-1 clash.

First up on court today was Abbie Palmer who had to play Harshit Jawanda. Jawanda managed to get the first 2 games off Palmer, but before she knew it Palmer had clawed her way back into the match taking the third game. The fourth game was a tense affair with the game going long but Palmer held her nerve and took the game 13-11. The fifth had everyone on the edge of their seat but unfortunately Palmer went down in an epic five setter and India took the lead.

Next on court was Ellie Epke to take on Adya Advani. The two players tussled it out in the first game but Epke found what she needed and closed the game out 12-10. Epke came back on court and never looked back not giving Advani another chance and closed the game out in 3.

With the tiebreak going down to Juee Bhide this was going to be a tough battle on court against Akanksha Salunkhe. Salunkhe managed to get the first 2 games with a consistent 11-8 in both games. Bhide came out and put everything on the line in the third and with the game going long both teams held their breath before Bhide delivered the devastating blow and she took the third game 12-10. That was the turning point in the match and Bhide delivered a mammoth blow to the Indians in the fourth taking her fourth 11-0 win of the tournament. The match closed out with a final score of 11-3 in the fifth and the win for New Zealand.

New Zealand will now go into the 5/6 playoffs and have Canada. Good luck girls!
