Nominations continue to roll in as the regional squash District associations continue to find the Squash club, volunteer and coaches of the year.Awards Trophy

Club of the Year

Squash City Invercargill was awarded the 2014 Club of the Year title for their club atmosphere, strength of media relationships, comprehensive range of programmes available, excellence in hosting tournaments, modern facilities, use of technology, positive emphasis on coaching and juniors, volunteer recognition initiatives and their dedicated volunteers, including the Red Shirt Brigade.

Volunteer of the Year 

A volunteer is an individual who willingly provides their time and effort to support the delivery of squash without remuneration. Last year Josie Fenwicke was awarded the Volunteer of the year for uplifting the reputation, financial performance and overall operations of the Thorndon Club. Not only did Josie help raise over $15000 for the club through private hire events, but she created a new website and Facebook page, assisted with marketing and promoting club activity and organised the Squash Wellington AGM and prize giving on top of her regular involvement.

National Coaching Awards 

3 awards are on offer in the coaching space:

  • New Coach: After helping to run juniors at her local club Rangitikei, Sally Stantiall continued to upskill in a number of coaching modules and began assisting to deliver a number of programmes throughout the Central District.
  • Club & School Coach: Running programmes at schools and clubs throughout the Bay of Plenty which impact on hundreds of youngsters, Graeme Randolph helped a number of juniors develop their squash skills and further fostered their love for the game.
  • Performance Coach: Providing training for the top seniors and juniors, Kashif Shuja coached a number of players to national and international titles, whilst helping SquashGym become the most successful club for junior squash.

Coaches, clubs and volunteers can only be recognised if nominated. There are lots of people to celebrate and anyone can put forward a deserving coach. The Club and volunteer of the year awards are run through the Districts with the respective winners eligible for the National award.
