Day 1 of SuperChamps 2014 SuperChamps resized

In true SuperChamps style Day 1 proved to have a number of upsets across the country with top seeds tumbling to their lower seeded opponents.

At the B Grades the early upsets came in the Mens Pool A Draw when 8th seeds Eden Epsom took down 1st seeds Royal oak in a close 3/2 battle. 4th seeds Remuera managed to sneak the win over 5th seeds Devoy in what was a close battle. Round 2 for Pool A saw Royal Oak get back on track with a 4-1 win against 9th seeds Surf City. Eden Epsom wasn't able to continue their winning streak with a loss to Devoy 4-1. In pool B the upsets continued as 6th seeds SquashGym took down 3rd seeds Cambridge 3-2. 2nd seeds Marlborough however looked comfortable with a 5-0 win over 7th seeds Otago Uni.

In the B Grade Womens Draw Pool A saw the 1st seeds Hamilton go down in a tight tussle to 8th seeds Whangarei 3-2 being the final score. 5th seeds Te Puke managed to get the win over 4th seeds Otago Uni taking thetie out 4-1. Te Puke carried this winning streak on in to the second round beating Whangarei 4-1, Hamilton managed to get back on track in the second round beating 9th seeds Devoy 4-1. In pool B 3rd seeds Hastings took a 5-0 win over Remuera, whislt second seeds Royal Oak took a 5-0 win over 7th seeds Oamaru.

In the C Grade Womens Draw Pool A 5th seeds Kawarao Park overcame 4th seeds Hawkes Bay Squash Rackets Club 3-2, whilst 1st seeds Hamilton had a nervous battle against 8th seeds Upper Hutt but they clinched the win 3-2. Hamilton had a more convincing win later that night against 9th seeds Hawkes Bay Lawn and Tennis winning 4-1, whilst Kawarao Park took another win 3-2 over Upper Hutt. In Pool B the 6th seeds Kaitaia took down 3rd seeds and hometown heroes Taumarunui 4-1. 2nd seeds Devoy had a convincing win over 7th seeds Manurewa 5-0.

In the C Grade Mens Draw Pool A 4th Seeds Havolck North scraped the win over 5th seeds Geyser City 3-2 whilst 1st seeds Island Bay had a scare against 8th seeds Hika Squash. Geyser City came out later that night and took the win 4-1 over Hika Squash whilst Island Bay took a 5-0 win over 9th seeds Remuera. In pool B 3rd seeds Matamata went down 4-1 to 6th seeds North Shore whilst 2nd seeds Wanganui looked comfortable over Christchurch Squash Club taking the win 5-0.

At the D Grades in Cromwell the whole town seems to be coming down to support the teams and in particular when the Cromwell players are on court. Round 1 of the ladies Pool A saw 1st seeds Hawkes Bay take a convincing win over 8th seeds Gore who are at SuperChamps for the first time. 4th seeds Geyser City won 4-1 against 5th seeds Red Star. Red Star took a win in round 2 but this was a closer battle against the Gore ladies with the final score going 3-2. Hawkes Bay took another strong win over 9th seeds Taihape 5-0. In pool B round 1 of the ladies 2nd seeds Ngaruawahia showed their strength over 7th seeds Panmure taking a 4-1 win. 3rd seeds Cromwell took their first win over 6th seeds Timaru 4-1. In Round 2 Panmure came out to get their first win on the board 4-1 over Timaru whilst Ngaruawahia continued their winning streak beating 10th seeds Christchurch 4-1. 

In the D Grade Mens Pool A saw 1st seeds Devoy take a 5-0 win over Alexandra whilst 4th seeds Ohakune were not able to beat out 5th seeds Henderson going down 3-2. Pool B saw 2nd seeds Cromwell take a tight win over 7th seeds Havelock North 3-2 and 3rd seeds Hamilton took the win 4-1 from 6th seeds Red Star.

In the Mens E Grades Pool A saw 6th seeds Kamo upset 1st seeds Havelock North 4-1, whilst 5th seeds Devoy upset the 2nd seeds Henderson 3-2. In the ladies Pool A saw 1st seeds Havelock North take a win 5-0 over Mana and Devoy won 4-1 over Franklin.

The F/J Grade event starts today.
