Day 1 of Junior Inter-District EventNew Squash NZ Logo Horizontal Small

There was only one minor upset on the first day of the NZ Junior Inter-district teams event down at SquashCity Invercargill.

First up in the teams event were the girls. The top seeded Auckland team looked convincing in their win over 8th seeds Southland only dropping 1 game and winning all their matches in the tie. 4th seeds Bay of Plenty took a 3/1 win over the 5th seeds Waikato with Anika Jackson taking the sole win for the team. 2nd seeds Canterbury also took a 3/1 win over 7th seeds Eastern with Rosemary Mair from Eastern taking the win for Eastern. 3rd seeds Northland had a 3/1 win over 6th seeds Central with Kaitlyn Watts claiming the win for the Central girls. 

In Round 1 of the Boys event, 2nd seeds Auckland had a strong win 4/0 over 7th seeds Southland matching their girls team only dropping 1 game. Top seeds Bay of Plenty also had a good win 4/0 over 8th seeds Eastern. 5th seeds Central managed to topple 4th seeds Canterbury with a 3/1 win with Charlie Barker claiming the lone win for the Canterbury Boys. Waikato looked strong with a 4/0 win over the Wellington boys.

In the second round of the Girls Auckland carried on with a strong performance winning 4/0 against Waikato. Bay of Plenty also carried on with their winning streak beating Southland 3/1. The same was true for Canterbury who beat Central 3/1 and Northland who beat Eastern 3/1.

In the second round of the Boys event Bay of Plenty took a strong win over Central winning 4/0. Canterbury got back on track beating Eastern 3/1 whilst Waikato continued their winning streak taking a 4/0 win over Southland. Auckland dropped their first match against Wellington where John Allan claimed the win for Wellington but Auckland still took the tie 3/1.
