Kiwis at the US Junior Open

Kaitlyn Watts continued her winning ways in making it through to the semi-finals at the US Junior Open Championships.

Watts dispatched of McKenna Stoltz (USA) 11-2, 11-8, 11-8 and then won against Eujung Park (USA) 11-8, 10-12, 11-3, 11-6 to qualify for the quarter finals. Playing on the glass court, number 3 seed Watts has had to dig deep to beat Caroline Spahr (USA) 11-9,11-7,11-5.

Unfortunately, the top Egyptian girl Nouran A. Youssef proved too much for Watts in the semi-finals with Watts losing 9-11, 7-11, 1-11.

The rest of the kiwi crew were also unable to further their respective causes in the main draw. In the Boys Under 11 grade Apa Fatialofa could not match his opponent, bowing out in the round of 16. Meanwhile older brother Leo qualified for the quarter finals but was unable to maintain his winning ways. Jamie Oakley too found the going tough in his round of 32 match, losing to a stronger Andrew Douglas in three. In the Girls Under 15 grade, Anika Jackson narrowly lost her round of 16 match, whilst Courtney Trail could not keep up with her opponent in qualifying for the quarter finals.

Well done to all the Kiwis competing and we wish them well for their remaining matches.
