Oceania Junior Champs Draws Set

TTS-OJC Junior Team 2 Resized

With 36 kiwis having travelled across the ditch to compete in the Oceania Junior Championships in the Gold Coast New Zealand will be hoping to claim a number of titles this weekend.

The 18 strong Trans-Tasman team have departed as well to defend their title they won in Invercargill in 2015 with one of the most convincing wins over Australia for a number of years.

A number of New Zealand's youngest players will be competing in the Under 11's event. The Under 11 girls sees Maia Smales (seeded 4) and Sophie Hodges (seeded 2) both looking to take out their Australian counterparts in separate pools to meet up in the final. The Under 11 boys sees Mikarore Joyce and Freddie Jameson (seeded 2) having to face some stiff competition against the Australians and some Malaysians to get out of their pools and into the final, Jameson however will be coming off a high after some great results in America and Canada recently.

The Under 13 Girls sees Trans-Tasman members Ariata Kutia (seeded 2) and Ruby Saies (seeded 5/8), joined by Natalie Sayes (seeded 5/8) and Rakairoa Joyce to battle their way through their draw to the final. In the Boys Under 13 Joe Smythe (seeded 2) will be representing the Trans-Tasman team with Leo Fatialofa choosing to play in the Under 15's where he secured a 9/16 seeding. Smythe will be joined by Mason Smales (3/4 seed), Apa Fatialofa (5/8 seed) and Riley-Jack Vette-Blomquist (seeded 5/8).

With Leo Fatialofa in the Under 15's he joins his team members Glenn Templeton (seeded 2) and Kobe Fleming (seeded 5/8). The Under 15 Girls has Winona-Jo Joyce (seed 3/4) and Annaleise Faint (seed 5/8) from the Trans-Tasman team competing alongside Anika Jackson (seed 2) to bring back some gold for New Zealand.

The Under 17 Boys has Matthew Lucente (seed 2) and Corbin Faint (seed 3/4) represent the New Zealand tema whilst Ben Remihana (5/8) will also be showing the Australians how strong the kiwi players are. Zoe Dykzeul (seed 5/8) will have to make it through qualifiers to join fellow team member Nadia Hubbard (seed 2) in the Main draw of the Under 17's. Ruby Turnbull (seed 5/8) and Rhiarne Taiapa will also be trying to make it through to the main draw as well.

The Under 19 Boys sees 4 Boys competing from the New Zealand team with Alex Revington (seed 5/8), Rafa Yam (seed 5/8), Finn Trimble (seed 9/16) and Sam Sayes (seed 9/16) along with Jayden Millard (seed 9/16). The Under 19 Girls will see team members Kaitlyn Watts (3/4) coming off a high from America and Anna Hughes (seed 5/8) competing for the New Zealand team whilst Abbie Palmer (seed 1) and Lauren Crowhurst (seed 5/8).

Good luck to all our Kiwis competing and we look forward to following their results.
