Oliver Johnston of Christchurch will be taking on Michael Blanchard from Auckland in the Men’s Open of the South Island Championships whilst Megan Craig will take on Nikki Kennedy.

The first semi-final of the South Island Championships was between Erin Ellery and Nikki Kennedy. The first game saw both players have some great shots but Kennedy managed to force the errors from Ellery to round out the first game. Kennedy came out in the second and worked Ellery in the front of the court with some brilliant drops which Ellery just wasn't able to get to. Kennedy used the front of court to her advantage and claimed the second game and extended her lead. Kennedy came out in the third and continued her winning formula and she claimed the match to seal her place in the final.

The second semi-final of the Womens Open saw Megan Craig take on Kiriana Andrew. Craig dominated the centre of the court in the first game pushing Andrew to the back and claiming the first game in convincing fashion. The second game followed a similar pattern with Andrew just not able to get Craig off the tee and Craig was not having any mercy knowing she had a Men's Open semi-final to come. Craig claimed the second game and extended her lead. Craig continued her form in the third to take the match in three.

Megan Craig stepped back on court for the first Men's Semi Final playing Michael Blanchard. Craig put the pressure on Blanchard through some tight length and powerful shots. This pressure forced Blanchard into the errors and Craig managed to round out the first game. Craig had some excellent shots in the second and Blanchard was not able to curb his error rate with Craig claiming the second game in a strong style. Blanchard came out strong in the third and didn't give Craig any chance to gain momentum. Blanchard put the ball away from Craig and Blanchard managed to claim the third game and get himself back in the match. Blanchard and Craig went point for point early on but some excellent shot choice from Blanchard paid off and he claimed the fourth game and levelled the match. Blanchard managed to move Craig around the court and force the errors and work her wide in the fifth. This along with some great nicks saw Blanchard seal his place in the South Island Championships final.

The last semi-final match was between Quinn Udy and Oliver Johnston. Johnston showed his dominance over Udy working him around the court proving too strong for Udy with Johnston claiming the first game in strong fashion. Johnston carried on in devastatingly powerful fashion and continued to control the centre and use his height to his advantage to claim the second game. In the third Udy showed some great movement on court but this wasn't enough and Johnston made his way into the final.
