The upsets have continued in Round 2 of the Cousins Shield event and the Women’s top pool has been decided to battle it out for the Mitchell Cup.

In Round 2 the bottom half of the Cousins Shield draw saw Remuera men showed the local Masterton men they were here to try and claim the plate taking the tie 5-0. Hamilton and Royal Oak went match for match in their tie but it was the middle order for Hamilton who pulled it out and Hamilton claimed the tie 3-2. SquashGym got their win from Hawke’s Bay in strong fashion with their only loss coming at the top but they claimed the tie 4-1. In the top half of the Men’s draw the top seeds Squashways showed they were here to claim their third title and took out Mitchell Park in a convincing 5-0 win. Lugton Park were not able to continue their upsets going down to the second seeds Herne Bay A 5-0. Fourth seeds Devoy sealed their win over Henderson in the fourth match with the final tie score being 4-1. The upset of the top half came between third seeds Thorndon and sixth seeds North Shore. Brent Lewis got the Shore off to a good start with a hard fought win over Wellington Administrator and team manager for Thorndon Willie Bicknell. Gary Duberly (two times World Masters Champion) was next to extend North Shores lead beating Richard Pittams in four. The top seeds were next on and both Englishman Ashley Davies (representing North Shore) and Declan James (representing Thorndon) were out to have a good battle. Davis being the lower ranked player in the world shouldn’t have had a chance on paper but James’s incredible pickups at points were not enough for him and Davies claimed the match and tie for North Shore. The Shore claiming the tie 3-2 and their place in the Semi-Finals.

In Round 3 of the Mitchell Cup Royal Oak came out firing not letting the home town heroes of Masterton have a look in taking the win 5-0. The North Shore Women decided to repeat their first day result but this time they went match for match with Tokaroa but they were eventually able to seal the tie 3-2. The final tie for the pool play was between Remuera and Hamilton. Remuera continued to show why they are top seeds and took the tie from Hamilton 5-0. The top pool for the Mitchell Cup will now see Remuera, SquashGym and North Shore battling it out for the 2016 title.
