NZ Southern Open Finalists Determined NZ Southern Open Angus vs Tszjpg

The ILT & CTOS NZ Southern Open PSA semi-finals went according to plan tonight in Invercargill, with both top seeds securing their spots in the final tomorrow.

Top seed Paul Coll started off very strongly against third seeded Australian Rex Hedrick, taking the first set convincingly 11-4. Hedrick came back in the second set a bit stronger, using some better shot-play, and forcing the errors from Coll, just sneaking in to take the set 11-9. Coll refocused during the break and came back harder and more determined, flying around the court retrieving balls and using great decisions to take the third and fourth sets 11-4.

Seconded seed Tsz Fung Yip (HKG) took a quick lead in the first set before fourth seed Angus Gillams (ENG) began to edge back into the game with increased accuracy and fewer errors, Tsz Fung just taking it 11-9. The second set saw Tsz Fung play with much more precision and decisiveness in his shots, keeping Gillams off balance and out of position much of the set. Gillams started to turn the tables in the third set, edging to a slight lead and then maintaining patience to close out the set 11-9. It wasn’t quite enough however and Tsz Fung came back focused and with even more shot accuracy to take the fourth convincingly 11-2.
