Jamie Oakley gives us an update on the World Junior Mens fourth day on the ground and the first day of competition.

Day 4: Today was feeding time at the zoo for team NZ as match play got underway at the world junior squash Championships.

Scott got the team off to a great start taking down his Swiss opponent in straight sets, as did Finn Trimble, Ellie Epke, and myself. Unfortunately Sam was on the wrong end of his match, losing in 5 of the best sets, he was very unlucky not to get the W, however most described it as the match of the round and some of the best squash I've seem Sam play.

Round 2 kicked off in similar fashion with Squat Galloway on first, the Iranian had a great support crew with a passionate wife and 2 kids, I'm unsure if there's no razors in Iran cause this man had a beard and a half for an "18" year old. The man could play aswell, he may not have shaved since his wedding but he was razor sharp on court and was unfortunately too good on the day for Scottie edging him out in 4 sets.

Next up was Finlay with a difficult task in front of him, playing the number 2 seed and 4 time British junior age group champion Eain Yow Ng of Malaysia. Despite replacing Eain Yow's ankles for dust on one specific occasion, Trimbrûlée was unable to get any sort of momentum and went down in 3 sets. It was a great learning curve for Finn and Scottie and I'm sure they will be better off for the teams event.

On a personal note I was able to squeeze past my opponent from India in 3 games and advance to the 3rd round. Ellie and Sam looked on as their next match was to be on day 5. Coach HD was impressed with the teams effort on the opening day of the tournament and hoping for more success on day 2.
