World Junior Mens Blogs Up To Teams Day 2Jamie Oakley

Jamie Oakley gives us an update on the World Junior Mens Individuals and Teams Event up to day 2 of the Teams.

Apologies for the lack of blogs recently, not much to talk about at the backend of the tournament due to the nature of the draw, all in all a successful individuals campaign for most with Ellie finishing 8th, Finn and Scotty losing out in the 33-64 draw to the eventual finalists of that plate, Sammy may not have had the results he'd hoped for but I know he gained some great experience and is now better off because of it. Very happy with the way my tournament went finishing in the 17-32 bracket and getting a taste of what it takes to be at the top level.

Today was the first day of teams and we got under way by swiftly putting away Poland 3-0 and nobody dropping a set.

Next up we had the difficult task in attempting to topple the 4th seeded Indians who had shown good form in the individuals, Scotty was first up and unfortunately had a game to forget going down in a tight 3 games, Finlay was firing on all cylinders in his match and was unlucky not to take it meaning we had fallen down 2-0 and lost the tie. For myself I had no pressure and nothing to worry about and managed to pull off one of the biggest upsets all week, I was incredibly happy with the way I played but disappointed in the final result losing 2-1. This tie proved were not far behind a strong country like India.

Tomorrow we face Argentina in a crucial encounter, a win would guarantee us a spot in the top 12 and the possible quarter final berth. Stay tuned.

Day 2 of the teams event saw us take on Argentina in a must win encounter to stay in the main draw, the playing order was 1,2,3 meaning I was on first and got us off to a rather rough and unpleasant start winning in an ugly four, Scotty continued the ugly trend of winning in four, so that meant 2-0 to NZ, ensuring the win. Sammy came on last and put another nail on the coffin winning in an easy three to seal the deal.

We have just received the news that were playing Canada for a spot in the quarter finals, a tough draw but a draw we won't lie down on.
