World Junior Mens Blog Teams Day 3 Jamie Oakley Wins

Jamie Oakley gives us an update on the World Junior Mens Teams Event Day 3.

On day 3 of the teams event here in Poland, team NZ had the huge task of toppling Canada to make it into the 1/4 finals and a guaranteed top 8 finish.

I was once again given the task of getting NZ off to a good start and to be fair a great start was received with a 3/0 win over Mike Mehl.

Finlay was up next to seal the deal, he came out very strong and kept the foot on the throat winning the opening game 11/2, he went on to lose the second in a nail biter, but went ahead once more after making another statement in the third. Unfortunately for Finn and the team things went downhill from here, losing the 4th and 5th in tie breaks and was unable to capitalise on 4 match points to take NZ to the Quarters.

However what was to come was an absolute masterclass. The real SG was called upon and he stood tall absolutely dispatching the poor Canadian number 2, he kept the ball rolling from set 1 to 3 literally. A heroic moment from Scotty, a performance we all knew he had in him.

What a time to be alive, NZ take on tournament favourites in Egypt tomorrow morning at 12pm.
