SCTI Oceania Junior Championships Day 2 Wraps Up
15 Apr 2017It’s been another full on days of games at the Southern Cross Travel Insurance Oceania Junior Championships with a number of players securing their places in the quarters and semi-finals to try and claim their age group titles.
The Under 19 boys has seen all top 8 players progress to the quarter finals and with a number of international match ups it is sure to be anyones day to progress to the Semi’s. Finn Trimble the top seed of New Zealand took a win in 3 over Akil Afghan of New Zealand whilst second seed of Australia Caleb Johnson took the win in 3 over New Zealand’s Angus MacDonald. The Under 19 Girls saw 6th seed Courtney Trail of New Zealand having to withdraw due to illness meaning 10th seed Winona-Jo Joyce of New Zealand has moved into the Quarter finals, all other of top seeds moved into the Quarter Finals with the match of the round having to go to 3rd seed Anika Jackson of New Zealand and 9th seed Zoe Dykzeul of New Zealand with both girls throwing everything they had into the match to send it to 5.
The Under 17 Boys saw 9th seed Glenn Templeton of New Zealand take out 8th seed Toby Moore of Australia in a strong 3 whilst all other top seeds have progressed into the Quarter finals. The Semi-Finals for the Under 17 Girls are set with top seed Rhiarne Taiapa of New Zealand taking on 4th seed Ruby Turnbull of New Zealand who came through in a hard fought five setter. The other semi-final sees 6th seed Annaleise Faint of New Zealand take on 2nd seed Amara Afghan of New Zealand with Faint upsetting her higher seeded opponent to make the semi’s.
In the Under 15 Boys top seed Leo Fatialofa of New Zealand and 4th seed Joshua Penfold of Australia will battle it out for a place in the finals after taking wins in 3 so far in this competition. The other boys semi-final sees 3rd seed Elijah Thomas of New Zealand and 2nd seed Remi Young of Australia battle it out in another Trans-Tasman affair. The Under 15 Girls will be an all Australian affair with Sze Yu Lee to take on 4th seed Katie Davis and 6th seed Georgia Lane to take on 2nd seed Hayley Hankinson.
The Under 13 Boys sees top seed Edward Boon Hai Thng of Singapore taking on 5th seed Dylan Classen of Australia whilst 3rd seed Oscar Curtis of Australia takes on 2nd seed Mason Smales of New Zealand in the other semi final. The Under 13 Girls has seen 5th seed Ella Lash of New Zealand make her way to the semi-finals to now face top seed Sophie Hodges of New Zealand. 2nd seed Erin Classen of Australia will take on 3rd seed Natalie Sayes of New Zealand in the other semi-final.
The Boys Under 11 sees a continuation of the Pool Play with top seed Oliver Dunbar of New Zealand losing out to 5th seed Matthew Growcott from New Zealand in Pool A and 7th seed Reece Holmes of New Zealand beating out 2nd seed Zane Wolpers of Australia. Top seed Maia Smales of New Zealand takes on 5th seed Saara Joukani of New Zealand in the Under 11 Girls Semi-Finals whilst 3rd seed Paloma Sze of Hong Kong takes on 2nd seed Anabel Romero Gemmell of New Zealand in the other semi-final.
Games kick off at 8am at the Henderson Squash club and run until late tomorrow night. Come down and watch some matches or settle in and watch the courts being livestreamed. Links can be found here or here and below.
