Growth in Coaching Modules 2017

Already this year more than 250 people have taken part in an interactive and practical module workshop where they have learned the skills required to coach their players for the upcoming season. By attending the coach development modules, more coaches will soon be passing on even more knowledge to the squash community and lifting the standard of play.

Under Squash New Zealand’s growing CoachForce programme, the network of trained regional facilitators have arranged a number of modules in order to raise the number and quality of coaches working in clubs and schools throughout the Districts. The modules, which all have a practical element, focus on athlete-appropriate coaching and come with a special module pack and world-class resources with examples of easy-to-follow training sessions and activities to help.

Squash New Zealand Coaching and Development Director Luke Morriss said “coach development is the cornerstone of athlete development. If we know the technical and tactical elements of squash but can't communicate this information with other people then the game in New Zealand won't progress. This means it’s important that we all keep developing our coaching (people) skills so that we can effectively pass this information onto our players to help them and ourselves be better.”

Since the new Coach Development Framework was released in 2010, more than 1,400 people have qualified as squash coaches by attending one of the available modules. Earlier this year 14 CoachForce facilitators attended Squash New Zealand’s first-ever CoachForce training forum to be officially recognised as regional CoachForce facilitators.

Anyone with an interest in coaching is welcome to attend a module and no qualifications or experience is necessary – just a love of squash and a desire to pass on your knowledge.
