King Wins Again In Saudi Arabia

New Zealand squash pro, Joelle King has had a good win in the second round of the US$165,000 Saudi PSA Women’s Squash Masters tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia this morning.

Ranked nine in the world King defeated eighth seed Annie Au from Hong Kong 11-8 12-10 11-5.

King will now face Egyptian fourth seed Nouran Gohar in the quarter-finals tomorrow morning. The last time King played Gohar was in the final of the Macau Open in September where the Egyptian came away the winner in straight games.

King said "Annie and I are the same age, and we played a lot in the juniors. Today she managed to start much better than I did and I had to try to come back.

In the second, I just didn’t want to come out and lose it easy. So even if I lost the rallies I told myself to make it as hard as possible for her and try to establish a momentum.

In the middle of the second, when I was down 9/4, we had a couple of rallies that were probably the hardest physically, and I guess my physicality made the difference at that point, coming back from 9/4 down to 10/9.

Tomorrow, the winner of Nouran and Lusty. Anyone can win these days, I just hope they have a nice 3:2 in 90m.
