Coll Makes Semis In Guatemala

New Zealand squash pro Paul Coll has made a good start to the US$50,000 Sporta Guatemala XI Torneo Internacional PSA tournament in Santa Catarina Pinula.

The world No.10 won his first round in four games over Mexican, Alfredo Avida and then defeated fifth seed Cesar Salazar (Mexico) 11-8, 11-1, 11-2 in 31 minutes to make the tournament semifinals.

Commonwealth Games singles silver medallist Coll, 26 will now face surprise British Open winner Miguel Angel Rodriguez (Colombia) in a mouth-watering semifinal clash. The pair are regular training partners and Rodriguez will have confidence after his recent success at the prestigious British Open where Coll reached the quarter-finals.

After Guatemala Coll will play in the Dubai World Series season-end championships in just over a week before returning to New Zealand for the national championships 15-17 June in Auckland where he is the title holder
