New Zealand Squash Team Cause Upset In India

New Zealand has caused an upset in the first game of round robin pool play at the world junior men’s squash teams event in Chennai, India.

Playing in Group G alongside seventh seeds Colombia and 22nd seeds Qatar the Kiwi team has beaten Colombia in their first match by the narrowest of margins.

In the No.1 singles Lucente lost to the highly rated Matiaas Knudsen 9-11, 9-11, 5-11 in 27 minutes, however earlier at No.2 Gabe Yam won for New Zealand over Luis Alejandro Mancilla 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-5 in 48 minutes. The third singles had Chileshe start the contest with a win in an epic one hour four-minute battle over Andres Villamizar 7-11, 11-5, 11-8, 9-11, 11-9. It was a solid start for team NZ with the boys never give up attitude and determination to win.

The Kiwi side play Qatar tonight with the top 16 nations going through to knockout play.
