World Junior Championships March Update

A lot has been happening over the past month with preparations for the World Junior Squash Championships being held here 19-29 July 2017. The three host clubs Devoy Squash & Fitness Centre, Mt Maunganui Squash Club and Te Puke Squash Club have undertaken, or are about to embark, on major renovations in readiness for the Championships.

CLUB UPGRADES

Devoy Squash & Fitness Centre is about to start a $250,000 extension to their kitchen (including new appliances), bar, proshop and office spaces which will increase the footprint by 40m2. Mt Maunganui Squash Club have already completed a significant refurbishment including new roof insulation and sound attenuating tiles, new cladding, shower mixers, water cooler, LED lighting, fans, lounge revamp and heart defibrillator kit. They are now looking to upgrade their kitchen facilities and repaint the viewing area and changerooms. Te Puke Squash Club has installed new LED lighting, new deck, fans, also revamped the lounge area, opened up the floor plan and more. The Club’s gym space will undertake an overhaul before the event too. It’s great to see all of the activity and commitment by the Clubs to improve the facilities.

The completed renovations have greatly improved the Clubs and will benefit not only the athletes competing in the World Champs but also the members and community who get to enjoy the facilities long after the event. Well done to the Clubs and all the volunteers involved!
