Two Years Until World Masters Games 2017

World Masters Games Resized

On the 21st of April 2017 the World Masters games 2017 will commence and run for 10 days.

North Shore Squash Club will be the venue for Squash and there is excitement and much preparation going on at the club to prepare the club for this momentous occasion.

As one of the 28 codes within the Games programme, Squash is just one sport that has planning well underway for what is an event of considerable scale and complexity. The last major multi-sport event held in Auckland was the 1990 Commonwealth Games. WMG2017 will be 12 times the size in scale across the total sporting programme.

“The World Masters Games presents an enormous legacy opportunity for our sport within Auckland and the wider New Zealand.  It will be exciting to be part of such a huge multi-sport event and share the experience with sports people, administrators and officials from many of New Zealand’s leading sports.”

World Masters Games Chief Executive, Jennah Wootten, says celebrating two years to go is a key milestone for everyone involved in the event, particularly those tasked with logistical planning across the 28 sports and 45 disciplines.

“Auckland has never hosted a multi-sport event of this size and scale, but we’re incredibly pleased with the planning progress to date, and confident that together with our sports partners we can work through the technical complexities,” she says.

“This year we plan to make some major announcements such as the venues of the opening ceremony and Games hub, which will be a focal point of 10-day sporting festival. Then later in the year we’ll be preparing to open registrations so that athletes from around the world can sign-up and make detailed preparations.

“It’s going to be an exciting year ahead and we hope supporters of all 28 sports will get behind our effort to make this the best Games ever.”

To start the celebrations the North Shore Squash Club club will be having a 2 Years to go count down night on Friday May the 1st in the lounge. Kris Bird from the World Masters Organizing committee will be there to give a short run down on what we can expect and answer any questions you may have

Come along from 6 pm and enjoy the night with all the members and guests in the lounge overlooking Lake Pupuki. Family and friends all welcome.
