New Zealand Make Way to Top 8

New Zealand have claimed a spot in the top 8 playoffs at the World Women's Team Championships after defeating India in the final round of Pool Play in Paris, France.

What was heralded to be the match of the event before the Championships had even kicked off New Zealand was looking to stamp their mark on the competition and seal a place in the Top 8.

First on court was WR#59 Megan Craig against WR#24 Dipika Pallikal Karthik. Craig fought hard on court against her Indian counter-part however it was Karthik who managed to claim the win and first blood for India winning in 3 (11-6, 11-7, 11-5).

WR#9 Joelle King was next to take to the court against WR#13 Joshna Chinappa. King looked convincing in the first 2 games against Chinappa claiming them relatively comfortably, however Chinappa was not going down without a fight and came out firing to claim the third game. King and Chinappa fought hard going point for point and the game went long in the fourth but it was King's experience and calm composure which claimed her the win and leveled the score for New Zealand, King winning in 4 (11-5, 11-3, 5-11, 13-11).

Amanda Landers-Murphy WR#62 was next to take to the court in the deciding match against Sunayna Kuruvilla. Landers-Murphy never looked out of place in her match and showed her experience at these events and claimed the win and the tie for New Zealand in 3 (11-9, 11-8, 11-7).

New Zealand will now face the second seeds and the 2014 World Women's Team Champions England. England boast 4 players in the top 20 with current World Ranked #2 Laura Massaro leading the charge, WR#10 Alison Waters and WR#12 Sarah-Jane Perry taking the second and third spots and WR#17 Victoria Lust rounding out the team.

They will play at the Palais Des Sports Robert Charpenter Glass Court at 2pm Local Time. Check out the World Women's Team Championship page here to see where you can watch the games and follow all the results.
