New Zealand Go Down to England

It was always going to be a tough day at the office for the New Zealand team when they took on the 2014 World Champions England. England boast 4 players inside the top 20 making them a formidable force.

First on court was WR#61 Megan Craig taking on WR#11 Sarah-Jane Perry. Perry's experience shone through in the first game but Craig kept herself in it the whole way through. Craig came out in the second and played out of her skin to claim the second game in convincing style. Perry wasn't going to let Craig get away with that and she claimed the third game. Craig threw everything on the line in the fourth and whilst she was always within reach of Perry it wasn't enough and Perry claimed the first match for England in 4 (11-7, 4-11, 11-6, 11-9) in 39mins.

Next on court was WR#10 Joelle King who was taking on Laura Massaro. Massaro has just dropped from WR#2 to WR#4. It was going to be a big task for King to take out Massaro. King fought hard in each game throwing everything on the line to level the score but it wasn't meant to be today and England claimed the second match and a place in the Top 4 with Massaro taking the win in 3 ( 11-6, 11-8, 11-3) in 27mins.

With the tie being decided the last match was played best of 3 and Amanda Landers-Murphy the WR#55 took on Victoria Lust WR#16. Whilst Landers-Murphy fought hard she couldn't claim the win and went down in 2 to Lust 11-5 11-7 in 11mins.

New Zealand will now take on third seeds Malaysia who after a shock loss to Hong Kong China are in the 5-8 section after being runner-up in the 2014 event. Malaysia is led by Nicol David who has dropped to her lowest Word Ranking since 2004 and is WR#6. Delia Arnold, Low Wee Wern and Sivasangari Subramaniam round out the Malaysian team.

They will play at the St Cloud Squash Club at 2pm Local Time. Check out the World Women's Team Championship page here to see where you can watch the games and follow all the results.
