Fatialofa Claims Under 15 Boys Title in Darwin

Fatialofa wins U15 title

Leo Fatialofa has claimed the Under 15 Boys title at the Australian Junior Open, whilst a number of other kiwis have produced podium results after a tough final day in Darwin.

It has proven to the be a tournament of the fourth seeds in Australia with Auckland’s Fatialofa (4), beating Australian Gregory Chan (3) 11-4, 11-9, 11-6 (25 mins) to claim the final with a dominant display of squash.

Meanwhile in the Under 19 Girls final, Kaitlyn Watts (2) has finished with silver. Despite starting strong and taking the first two games, Watts was eventually beaten by Lynette Vai (1) from Papua New Guinea 13-11, 11-0, 9-11, 2-11, 6-11 (44 mins), after Vai made a remarkable comeback.

Over 170 players competed at the 2017 Australian Junior Open from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, New Caledonia, Singapore and Papua New Guinea at the Darwin Squash Centre. Well done to all the kiwis who competed.

Diana Galloway beat Jananii Sukunesan (Aus) 11-4, 11-5, 11-3.

Under 19 Girls

Final

Kaitlyn Watts (2) lost to Lynette Vai (1) (PNG) 13-11, 11-0, 9-11, 2-11, 6-11 (44 mins).

Anika Jackson (3) beat Courtney Mather (Aus) 11-4, 11-6, 13-11.

Winona-Jo Joyce lost to Lauren Aspinall (Aus) 11-9, 11-4, 10-12, 7-11, 10-12.

Consolation Plate Final

Holly Keen-O’Leary lost to Taylor Jones (Aus) 6-11, 11-5, 11-8, 5-11, 6-11.
