Kiwis take care of Qatar

New Zealand is into the knockout rounds of the men’s world junior squash teams event in Chennai, India after an easy 3-0 victory over Qatar overnight in their final pool game.

The victory secures the Kiwi team top sport in Group G after their success over Colombia yesterday. New Zealand, seeded 10th for the tournament will now play eighth seeds United States in the last 16 of the competition this evening.

The clash with Qatar started well with Anthony Lepper accounting for Ahmad Al Muraikhi 11-2, 11-1, 11-3 in just 17 minutes in the No.3 singles. The top singles was next and featured Matthew Lucente taking care of Hamad Al-Amn in 30 minutes 11-9, 11-6, 11-5 with the final match featuring Temwa Chileshe defeating Ibrahim Darwish 11-7, 11-7, 11-5 in 23 minutes.

If New Zealand were to beat the United States they would play the winner of Canada and Australia on Friday in the last eight of the tournament.
