Kiwis Beat Fifth Seeds At Teams Event

A big win for the New Zealand men at the world junior squash team championships in Chennai, India.

 

They have defeated the fifth seeds and host, India 2-1 in the penultimate day of the competition.

 

The first match on court featured the No.1 players, Matthew Lucente against Veer Chotrani with the Indian coming away the winner in four games in 44 minutes 14-12, 4-11, 11-5, 11-6 in a match which featured numerous long rallies.

 

Second ranked team mate Gabe Yam then took on Utkash Baheti with the Kiwi scoring a convincing win, even more so that he was down 2-7 in the second game but won the match 11-9, 11-8, 13-11 in 35 minutes.

 

In the decider it was a win for the Kiwis as Temwa Chileshe prevailed in a lengthy four game encounter taking 58 minutes for the victory over Rahul Baitha.

 

Chileshe won the first two sets in a battle but dropped the third 9-11 before staging another comeback to win the fourth for an overall score12-10, 11-9, 9-11, 14-12.

 

The New Zealand team now play Switzerland for ninth and tenth placing match tonight.
