Kiwis Ready For First Test At World Teams Event

The women’s world teams squash championships get underway tonight in Dalian, China at the Xigang Gymnasium in the Liaoning Province with New Zealand in with a good chance of making the top eight nations..

Seventh seeds New Zealand, take on Finland tonight (NZ time) who are seeded outside of the top 12 nations. However Pool B which contains New Zealand also has the strong second seeds England (Laura Massaro and Sarah Jane Perry) as well as 10th seeds Japan.

The Kiwi team features world No.4 Joelle King, along with Commonwealth Games medallist, Amanda Landers-Murphy from Rotorua, Abbie Palmer aged 20 and teenager Kaitlyn Watts, 17 from Palmerston North as well as head coach Kylie Lindsay.

The venue for the 11-16 September tournament has two all-glass showcourts, with arena seating, plus four permanent all-glass courts.

The world’s leading players are all attending the event including the top seeded team, Egypt where all four members of their team are ranked in the world top six.
