Kiwis Progress in Christchurch

There will be four Kiwis in tomorrow's quarter-finals of the Doubledot Media Christchurch Boys High School Open.

The Friday evening session began with no alarms, Mike Corren the top seed was up first and beat Adrian Leanza in three straight games.  On the other court Kashif Shuja and Matias Tuomi had a real tussle in the
opening two games before the experience of Shuja saw him take the final two games in comfortable fashion.

Kevin Moran, the fourth seed, comfortably won his match against Andrew Ellis to progress through to the quarters.  Lance Beddoes and Pablo Rawden contested a long and demanding first set, before Lance managed to get on top in the second and third games before Pablo was forced to retire with a leg injury. Paul Coll

Jaakko Vahamaa played consistent squash to beat Wojtek Nowisz in three tight games to reach the quarters after coming through qualifying.
Possibly the game of the night saw some fantastic squash as Douglas Kempsell beat third seed James Huang.  It what was a thrilling match lasting 92 minutes, and the result will mean two Scots in the quarters tomorrow.  Ben Grindrod had a tough battle and finally prevailed in five sets against Andrew Fraser, another qualifier makes the quarters.

The grand finale of the night was the match up between second seed and local favourite Paul Coll and Thoboki Mohohio of South Africa.  This was expected to be an entertaining match and so it proved.  Nervous locals were on the edge of their seats as the possibility of an upset loss loomed, but Coll finally came through with an 11/7 scoreline in the fifth.
