World Record AttemptCild Cancer Guinness Attempt

Father and Son duo Brett and James Meyer have previously held the world record for the longest game of squash and they are looking to do it again.

In 2008, Brett and James Meyer set a Guinness World Record for the longest singles squash marathon at 25 Hours and 55 minutes, and in doing so, raised $25,000 for the Child Cancer Society. This record has been broken several times and now sits at 33 hours held by an English pair.  Brett and James have decided they want to bring the record home, and will be challenging for the record on the weekend of 11th and 12th April this year. Once again, they will be raising money and awareness for the Child Cancer Society, and have set themselves a target of $36,000 that they want to raise.

36 hours is the goal. More importantly, they encourage local members, and the local community, to get behind them to bring the record “home’. There is relevant information on Facebook as well as a link to the Child Cancer sponsor page for more information. Any donations no matter how big or small go directly to the Child Cancer Society and is most welcomed.

Brett and James are currently in discussion with the TVNZ networks to record the entire challenge on video, a requirement of Guinness World Records for the record to be recognised. This could also result in airtime on the TVNZ network for the event, their club and our sport excellent exposure which is likely to extend beyond New Zealand.

In 2008, the club members got behind this event and helped create a carnival atmosphere for the full 26 hours. The club was buzzing with people present throughout the challenge, some bringing sleeping bags and spending the night. This event promises to be more of the same, so let’s get behind it as a club and help Brett and James bring the record home to where it all began! There is no way it should be sitting 15,000km away!

So if you are in the area on the weekend of 11th and 12th April pop into the Howick Squash Club. Starting 5am Saturday, finishing 5pm Sunday night.

TVNZ have even written a news article about them here. Great to see the support they are receiving
