Day 1 Junior NationalsSquashCity

Day 1 got off without a hitch at the Junior Nationals at SquashCity in Invercargill. All seeds looked comfortable with only some of the closer seeds having the tighter matches.

The Under 19 Girls saw first round qualifiers with the higher seeded players all managing to secure their place in the main draw. The tightest game was between Abby Wotten and Tori Claridge. with both players going game for game but eventually Wotten managed to clinch the match in the fifth. Katie Fairweather had a comfortable win over Katie Laird in 3. The same followed in Sian Duggan and Lucy Carters game with Duggan claiming the match in 3. Ruby Beresford managed to claim a win in 3 over Jasmine Demchy seeing all higher seeded players moving into the Main Draw.

The Boys Under 19 draw only saw 2 matches go beyond 3 games today. The first was between 16th seed Fergus Mckinnon and 17th seed Stuart Martin, whilst Martin claimed the first game Mckinnon game out firing in the second and never looked back taking the match in 4. The other tight match of the day was between 15th seed Callum Seymour and 18th seed Ben Roughan. Seymour managed to claim the first 2 games but this didn't deter Roughan with Roughan looking for the win and he dug deep to claw his way back and eventually take the match in 5. All other games went to plan with the higher ranked seeds taking their matches in 3. There were a couple of hairy games for the higher seeded players being pushed long but they all managed to keep their cool and win their games. There was also one 11/0 game from Tyler Ranger against Taine Williams.

In the Boys Under 17 it was again straight forward for the higher seeded players however it was a battle of the 15th and 18th seeds again with Akil Afghan getting the win over Elliot Jenkins in 5. The Boys Under 13 saw Hamish Dudley, Isaac Karati and Jack Reynolds qualify into the main draw, whilst in the Under 11 Boys Matthew Growcott managed to clinch the win from his higher seeded opponent.

The Girls Under 17 was again straight forward for the top seeds, however this time the 17th seed Lauren Vodanovich toppled the 16th seed Olivia McOnie. The Girls Under 13 saw all the top seeds proceed through and Sophie Hodges, Gemma Thompson and Ella Lash proceed into the main draw.
