Watts Claims U15 Canadian Junior Open TitleSquash Canada

After 4 days of high intensity squash Kaitlyn Watts has claimed the Under 15 Canadian Junior Open title whilst Jamie Oakley has lost out in a tough 4 setter in the final of the Under 19 Boys.

Watts was seeded 3/4 for the event and she worked her way through the draw in convincing style. Watts dispatched of unseeded Erica Mcgillicuddy and 13/16 seed Anika Kurji 3-0 in both matches. She then played 5/8 seed Meagan Best of Barbados and took the win in 4 after losing a tight second game. Watts next challenge was Olivia Robinson of America who was seeded 2nd. However Watts was on form and took a win in a convincing 3. In the final Watts played 5/8 seed Amita Gondi of India. After losing the first 2 games Watts fought hard in the third and came back from 10-10 to win the third and keep her hopes alive. This was the turning point for Watts with her taking out the next 2 games to win the Under 15 Girls title.

Oakley was also seeded 3/4 and he worked in a very similar style to Watts. In Oakley's first game he played unseeded Geordie Laird and took the win in 4. He then proceeded to dispatch 13/16 seed Stefan Houbtchev and 5/8 seed Matthew David Toth in 3. Oakley then had to face the number 1 seed Rahul Sehrawat. After a hard fought first set which went 15-13 in the Canadians favour Oakley found his stride and rounded out the game winning in 4. Unfortunately Oakley couldn't make it a second title for New Zealand and after some unforced errors he went down to 3/4 seed Matthew Henderson in 4.

Well done to all the Kiwis competing and we wish them well as they travel to America for the US Junior Open.
