Oli Dunbar set to play exciting round against World Junior Squash Boys (U19) Champion Rowan Damming in Morrinsville Open

Oli Dunbar, current New Zealand top Junior, is set to play Netherlands star and current World Junior Squash Boys (U19) Champion Rowan Damming in an exciting opening round of the Morrinsville Open on Thursday.

16 year old Dunbar attends Scots College and plays for Tawa Squash Club in Wellington. He first represented New Zealand at the 2022 World Junior Squash Championships in France, at the age of 15.

Oli’s family is proud as punch, acknowledging this “great opportunity for Dunbar to benchmark ahead of the Melbourne tournament but also gauge where he will need to be in two years time if he wants to be amongst the world's top junior players.”

Dunbar’s coach, former New Zealand Champion and Commonwealth Games representative, Evan Williams says the last six weeks have been heavily weighted towards performing well this weekend and heading into the World Juniors in Melbourne.

“Not many people can say they have played or will get to play a current World Junior Champion, so we are being as detailed as possible in our training to make sure Oli has the best showing, as you literally could not pick a better match up as preparation for next month’s key event.”

The first round match kicks off at 6:45pm on Thursday evening at the Morrinsville Squash Club. The World Junior Squash Championships commence in Melbourne on 18 July.
