Megan Graham back on court and loving it

Two-time national champion Megan Graham has advanced to the semifinals of the New Zealand Squash Championships and is loving being back at the top level of squash.

Graham won national titles in 2014 and 2016, and represented New Zealand at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games before taking several years off squash to start a family.

“I’ve always loved squash and after having the kids I wanted to get back on court as soon as possible,” said Graham.

“The best thing about it is the people, half our squad’s here from when we were 15 years old, so it’s awesome to see everyone and there’s such a great community.”

And she’s enjoying having the family on hand to cheer her own.

“It’s pretty cool to have the kids here. They’ve been good watching me so now it’s my turn to take them to the park and watch them.”

Graham returned to competition last year but ruptured her achilles, prolonging her return.

After a year of recovery she’s feeling better than ever and is in hot form at the NZ Championships, advancing to the semifinals after a clinical 11-1, 11-1, 11-5 victory over Sophie Hodges in her quarterfinal.

“The sport’s such a great runaround, it definitely keeps you fit. My grandad’s 85 and still playing even though he can hardly move so who knows how long I’ll keep going!”
