Epsom, Tauranga favourites for secondary school titles

Epsom Girls' Grammar and Tauranga BHS are the top seeds at this year's National Secondary School Championships to be held in Nelson this weekend.

Both Epsom and Tauranga are double defending champions at the event, having won in Cambridge last year, and Tauranga in 2012.  Epsom even won the 2011 event, underlining just how tough a task the other girls' teams have in front of them this year.2012 Sec Schools Champs Tauranga Boys College

Epsom's main competition is expected to be Palmerston North Girls' High School, who they beat in last year's final.  Whangarei and Marlborough round out the top four seeds.  Tauranga Boys' High School's main competition is expected to be Christchurch Boys' High School (2009-11 champions).  Last year's finalists Westlake are the third seeds, with Whangarei rounding out the top four.

The event will be played across four Nelson clubs: Nelson, Celtic, Waimea and Motueka.  Finals will be held on Sunday afternoon, with prize-giving (and the naming of the New Zealand Secondary Schools teams to travel to Australia) to follow.
